Jazz Essay #2
My two favorite works in the first act were Jamie Stults’ “Play Study” and Michael Helland’s “Endless Matter.” I was impressed with Jamie’s ability to only use children for her piece. It was very innocent and sweet and humorous at times as well. “Endless Matter,” on the other hand, was quite different. The technical aspect of the dancers was amazing and eye catching, and the interaction between the four dancers in their brightly colored tutus really brought the story within themselves. I also loved how the piece began and ended behind a door backstage- this confused some of the audience members at first, but it created a true beginning and an end to the story.
